Symposium East Tour Information


Symposium East will be offering a number of on-site tours at the NIH campus this year.  The following information details the tours available for 2008.  Signup sheets will be available on-site for each tour and each tour is offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

 

Monday, June 2, 2008 –

  • NIH Sustainable Light Display – 10:00 – 11:00 am - (25 people in bldg 9 room 1S112; will need transportation)
    • Visit Bldg 9 with us and take a look at the cutting edge health impacts of Frequency Variable Lighting.

 

  • National Library of Medicine Tour – 1:30 pm. – 2:30 pm (50 people; meet in the lobby of NLM/bldg 38; no transpo needed across the street from Natcher)
    • Peer into the past, present, and future of medicine at the world's largest medical library, with over 11 million items.  Here, high-tech wonders like virtual cadavers exist side by side with a rich historical collection, dating to the 11th century. We will also tour the new exhibition, "Against the Odds: Making a Difference in Global Health."  

 

Tuesday, June 3, 2008 –

  • NIH Stream Walk I - 10:30 a.m. in front of Natcher – (20 people walking to the stream will need comfortable shoes, hat for sun and water)
    • Are you ready for some environmental exercise?  Take a pleasant stroll with us along our urban stream; be engaged as you learn about forest conservation, stream restoration, and the birds and critters that inhabit our green areas on campus. 

 

Recommendations for the tour:

§         Comfortable walking shoes  

§         Dress for outdoor weather

§         Sunscreen

§         Bottle of Water 

 

This tour incorporates an approximate .5 mile walk over moderate downhill slopes. 

 

  • NIH Sustainable Light Display – 2:00 – 3:00 pm -  (25 people in bldg 9; room 1S112; will need transpo)
  • National Library of Medicine Tour – 1:30 pm. – 2:30 pm (50 people; meet in the lobby of NLM/bldg 38; no transpo needed – across the street from Natcher)

 

Wednesday, June 4, 2008 –

  • NIH Stream Walk II – 1:00 p.m. in front of Natcher
  • Cogen Tour I - 10:00 a.m. – (15 people in bldg 11; will need transportation; will meet outside of building 11/Cogen Plant in the parking lot)
    • Learn about the Cogeneration process and the way it produces steam and electricity simultaneously requiring much less fuel (and less emissions to the atmosphere) than producing each form of useful energy separately.

 

  • Cogen Tour II - 11:00 a.m. – (15 people in bldg 11; will need transportation; will meet outside of building 11/Cogen Plant in the parking lot)
  • National Library of Medicine Tour – 1:30 pm. – 2:30 pm (50 people; meet in the lobby of NLM/bldg 38 – No transpo)
