The Decarbonizing the U.S. Economy by 2050: A National Blueprint for the Buildings Sector, is a comprehensive plan to reduce GHG emissions from buildings by 65% by 2035 and 90% by 2050. DOE led the Blueprint's development in collaboration with the HUD, the EPA, and other federal agencies. The Blueprint is the first sector-wide strategy for building decarbonization developed by the federal government.

Plug and process loads (PPLs) consume about one-third of the primary energy in U.S. commercial buildings. PPLs cover a wide variety of electronic, computer, refrigeration, and cooking devices, including essential equipment for information processing, medical treatment, and food service businesses. The December 2015 decision guides found in this resource were created to help building owners find the right control strategy for PPLs in their buildings. Developed by the Better Building Alliance, the guides are developed for different building types and outline the costs, potential savings, complexities, and user friendliness of various control strategies and their applications to each building type. The guides also aim to help building owners determine whether a control is appropriate for particular project applications such as staged retrofit projects, whole-building retrofits, new construction projects, and projects that involve tenants and landlords. Lastly, the guides provide links to additional resources that can further help building owners assess and reduce the energy use that is associated with PPLs, find rebates for PPL control measures, and procure the right control types for their building equipment.

This Public Work Technical Bulletin (PWTB) 200-1-45, dated 1 February 2007, provides case studies and lessons learned on the deconstruction of excess or surplus buildings at seven Army installations.

This Web site offers information on the Department's effort to address environmental contamination at active and closing bases and former properties, while protecting human health and the environment.

The course includes identification and classification of hazardous materials and wastes; health effects and personal safety; packaging, labeling, handling, storage, and transportation procedures; contingency planning and release response; and hazardous materials and waste laws, regulations, and policies. This course does not provide training for certification of hazardous cargo shipments.

The curriculum includes a general overview of hazardous material and waste regulations as they relate to handler's jobs, identification, and labeling requirements, health hazards, storage compatibility, spill response, and hazardous waste classification. The course is intended to satisfy the requirement of yearly RCRA (40 CFR 260-265) update training for hazardous waste handlers.

The National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2010 required the Comptroller General to report on the Department of Defense's renewable energy initiatives, including projects involving the installation of solar panels. This report, dated 26 April 2010, contains the briefing for the Committees on Armed Services, United States Senate and House of Representatives. It includes a list of 454 projects.

DLA Energy is organized to work with customers and suppliers to accomplish all areas of its mission. Bulk Petroleum Products and Bulk Petroleum Supply Chain Services provide procurement and distribution of military specification petroleum products, the majority of DLA Energy's business. Direct Delivery Fuels manages commercial fuels that are delivered directly from the contractor to the customer. Defense Fuel Support Point Management manages fuel terminal and storage operations, including government-owned, contractor-operated and contractor-owned, contractor-operated facilities. Outside of petroleum, Installation Energy provides support for natural gas, coal, renewable energy, electricity and energy savings performance contracts. Utility Services manages the utility services contracting mission supporting the utility privatization programs of service partners. The Aerospace Energy business unit provides propellants, cryogenics and gases in support of weapon systems and space programs.

The EPA and the Dept. of the Army ("the agencies") are publishing this proposed rule to start the first step in a comprehensive, two-step process intended to review and revise the definition of "waters of the United States" (WOTUS) consistent with the Executive Order signed 28 Feb 2017. This first step proposes to rescind the definition of WOTUS in the CFR to re-codify the definition of WOTUS, which currently governs administration of the CWA, pursuant to a decision issued by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit staying a definition of WOTUS promulgated by the agencies in 2015. The agencies would apply the definition of WOTUS as it is currently being implemented, that is informed by applicable agency guidance documents and consistent with Supreme Court decisions and longstanding practice. In a second step, the agencies will pursue notice-and-comment rulemaking in which the agencies will conduct a substantive re-evaluation of the definition of WOTUS. This DOD Instruction 4715.17, issued 15 April 2009, establishes policy, assigns responsibilities, and prescribes procedures for achieving conformance with Environmental Management Systems (EMS).

The DoD Natural Resources Program (NR Program) supports the military's testing and training mission by protecting its biological resources. The NR Program provides policy, guidance, and oversight for management of natural resources on approximately 29 million acres of military land, air, and water resources owned or operated by DoD. The NR Program's goal is to support the military's combat readiness mission by ensuring continued access to realistic habitat conditions, while simultaneously working to ensure the long-term sustainability of our nation's priceless natural heritage.

This Plan builds upon the actions and activities outlined in the DOD 2014 Climate Change Adaptation Roadmap and meets the requirements of Section 211 of EO 14008, Tackling the Climate Crisis At Home and Abroad. The primary purpose of this plan is to integrate climate change adaptation and climate resilience across agency programs, management of real property, public lands and waters, and financial services. The DoD is responding to climate change in two ways: adaptation to enhance resilience to the effects of climate change and mitigation to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

The U.S. Army at Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks, Alaska has paid the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency a stipulated penalty of $87,000 for failure to complete the terms of a signed Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Consent Agreement and Final Order (CAFO).

The DOE is updating its NEPA implementing procedures pertaining to authorizations issued under the Natural Gas Act (NGA). These changes will improve the efficiency of the DOE decision-making process by saving time and expense in the NEPA compliance process and eliminating unnecessary environmental documentation for these actions that DOE has determined normally do not have significant effects. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) recognized 28 individuals and teams across the federal government for exceptional energy and water cost savings at the 2019 Federal Energy and Water Management Awards. This year's winners include those serving in the U.S. Air Force, Army, Defense Logistics Agency, Marine Corps, and Navy; the departments of Agriculture, Commerce; Energy, Interior, Justice, and Veterans Affairs; and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Many of the winning efforts focused on improving the federal government's energy efficiency and resilience through optimized operations and replicable cost-effective projects.

U.S Department of Energy (DOE) Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) issued a $13 million solicitation for new energy projects that will help federal facilities improve the efficiency of their operations and reduce their carbon footprint. Through this Federal Agency Call (FAC), entitled, "Assisting Federal Facilities with Energy Conservation Technologies (AFFECT),” DOE will help ensure that the federal government is leading by example in the effort to achieve the Biden Administration’s goal of a 100% clean-energy economy and net-zero emissions by 2050.
