A Message from the Office of the Federal Environmental Executive

It is our pleasure to invite you to participate in the 7th Annual Federal Environmental Symposia.Natcher Conference Center, Bethesda, Maryland.

This year, there will be an East Symposium and a West Symposium. The East Symposium, hosted by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), National Institutes of Health (NIH), will be held at the Natcher Conference Center (building 45), on June 2 - 4, 2008, from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. The conference center is located on the campus of the NIH, 9000 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, MD 20892.

This year we are very excited to have added a parallel Symposium out west, sponsored by the Commander Navy Region Southwest Integrated Solid Waste Program, and hosted by the Federal Network for Sustainability - West and supported by several federal land agencies within the greater Yellowstone region. The West Symposium will be held at the Big Sky Resort, 1 Lone Mountain Trail, Big Sky, MT 59716, on June 17 - 19, 2008.

Big Sky Resort, Big Sky, Montana. The theme this year is the Implementation Progress of Executive Order 13423 - Strengthening Federal Environmental, Energy, and Transportation Management. The purpose is to provide and exchange information and hear from our colleagues and experts on activities and experiences over the past year since the Executive Order was signed. We will also be using the Symposia to discuss and review implementation guidance that has been developed over the past year, as well as changes to the OMB environmental stewardship, energy, and transportation scorecards.

This past year was once again characterized by stellar efforts by the Federal community to lead by example in environmental and energy stewardship. We have done much, and learned much, over the past year in regard to the new E.O. But more importantly, we have learned over the past 7 years the value and utility of the symposium - a place where practitioners can come together to share tangible ideas and experiences.

We look forward to your participation in the Symposia. We have much information to share and build upon, so please join us. Whether in Bethesda or Yellowstone, we are sure you will find a worthwhile investment - and fun!
