Some custodians find it most efficient to dump an office trash can liner and use it as the "new" liner for the next office trash can. This saves the custodian the extra step of pulling out a new liner for each trash can, saves the organization money, and saves the landfill from untold numbers of plastic liners.
Plastic liners are available with biobased content. Biobased content not only reduces our use of petroleum but makes the bags more readily biodegradable when they are disposed of in a landfill. Because purchasing plastic bags with recycled content takes priority over biobased content and yet biobased content makes the bags more biodegradable, the U.S. Department of Energy is actively seeking plastic bags with recycled AND biobased content. The Environmentally Preferable Bag Matrix shows examples of plastic liners available. |
