Performance: |
The White House stationary is recycled paper, and DOE technical reports have been published on recycled paper since 1993. Paper in the copy machines at most DOE sites contains recycled content. With that in mind, only a rare exception should occasion the purchase of virgin paper. The minimum amount of recycled content required for printing and writing papers, including office paper products, or support services that include the supply of written documents, is 30% post-consumer content or 20% post-consumer content IF papers containing 30 percent postconsumer fiber are not reasonably available, do not meet reasonable performance requirements, or are only available at an unreasonable price. |

Specific Problems: |
Some specialty paper, such as that for color printers or award certificates, may appear to not be available with recycled content. However, they are: |
- 30% postconsumer, 8.5x11-inch, 24 lb paper can often be used in most color copiers. Check the copy machine handbook for the paper specifications. Most recycled paper can be found with the designated specs.

- 30% postconsumer, 8.5x11-inch, 28 lb, 96 bright acid free paper by Wausau supplied by Service Paper Company (Dennis Adams at 800-829-0081). - 30% postconsumer, 8.5x11-inch, 20 lb, 88 bright laser paper by Weyerhaeuser. Order No. 8155, or request from your office product supplier. The cost is $6.39/ream, which PPPL purchases by the case (10 reams).
