EO 13514 (Archive) - revoked by EO 13693 on March 19, 2015, Sec. 16(b)
Executive Order 13514, "Federal Leadership in Environmental, Energy, and Economic Performance ", signed October 5, 2009 by President Obama. This E.O. sets sustainability goals for Federal agencies and focuses on making improvements in their environmental, energy and economic performance.
EO 13693 (Archive) - revoked by EO 13834 on May 17, 2018, Sec. 8
Executive Order (EO) 13693, Planning for Federal Sustainability in the Next Decade, was signed by President Obama on 19 March 2015.
EO 14057
Executive Order (EO) 14057, Catalyzing Clean Energy Industries and Jobs Through Federal Sustainability, was signed by President Biden on 8 December 2021. Section 604 of EO 14057 revokes EO 13834 Efficient Federal Operations signed 17 May 2018.
EO 13423 (Archive) - revoked by EO 13693 on March 19, 2015, Sec. 16(a)
Executive Order (EO) 13423, "Strengthening Federal Environmental, Energy, and Transportation Management," was signed by President Bush on January 24, 2007. EO 13423 instructs Federal agencies to conduct their environmental, transportation, and energy-related activities under the law in support of their respective missions in an environmentally, economically and fiscally sound, integrated, continuously improving, efficient, and sustainable manner.
EO 13834
Executive Order (EO) 13834, Efficient Federal Operations, was signed by President Trump on 17 May 2018.
Acquisition
The Acquisition Program Area includes links to, and highlights from programs which enable agencies to meet these goals include: Environmentally Preferable Purchasing (EPP), Comprehensive Procurement Guidelines (CPG), ENERGY STAR®, the Green Procurement Program (GPP), and the Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP).
Chemical Management
The focus of the Chemical Management Program Area is emergency planning, community right-to-know, and reporting of substances and processes at facilities which may pose a threat. This area does not solely apply to manufacturers or large federal facilities. Chemicals include liquids, solids, and gaseous substances. A substance as common as “white-out” or a household pesticide/herbicide are considered a chemical as well as paints/strippers/thinners, toluene, mercury, chlorine and trichloroethane.
Cleanup
The Cleanup Program Area encompasses the identification, remediation, and management of contaminated sites under the Superfund, the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC), and the Brownfields programs.
Climate Adaptation
The Climate Adaptation Program Area supports Federal agency climate adaptation planning.
Cultural Resources
The Cultural Resources Program Area addresses the background and available tools and resources for the management of cultural and historic resources. This includes: preservation of historic properties, archaeological sites, gravesites, repatriation of Native American objects, and curation of collections.
Electronics Stewardship
The Electronics Stewardship Program Area addresses the life-cycle management of electronics from procurement to disposal. Links, documents, and case studies are provided for the Federal Electronics Challenge (FEC), the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT), and Energy Star.
Environmental Management Systems (EMS)
The EMS Program Area includes the latest guidance, examples, and resources for the development and implementation of processes and practices that enable an organization to reduce its environmental impacts and increase its operating efficiency.
Energy
The focus of the Energy Program Area is energy conservation, alternative sources of energy, and energy management programs.
Environmental Compliance
The Environmental Compliance Program Area encompasses compliance related issues such as auditing, sources of regulations, executive orders, and policies applicable to Federal Facilities.
Environmental Justice
The Environmental Justic Program Area includes links to EPA's Office of Environmental Justice, who is charged with coordinating the Agency's efforts to integrate environmental justice into all policies, programs, and activities, and, other environmental justice-related resources.
Greenhouse Gases
The Greenhouse Gases Program Area includes the latest guidance and information resources to aid Federal facilities in managing greenhouse gas emissions.
High Performance Buildings
Included in the High Performance Buildings Program Area (formerly Green Buildings) are links to, and highlights from, the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System,TM case studies of green construction efforts, software and databases to aid in determining which construction products and processes are the most effective, and assorted high performance construction guidelines and standards.
Natural Resources
The Natural Resources Program Area includes the latest guidance, examples, and information resources to aid Federal facilities in managing endangered or threatened species, wetlands, erosion control, habitat development, native landscaping, and wildlife in general.
NEPA
The NEPA Program Area provides guidance, policies, and examples of federal regulations and Agency policies for the implementation of NEPA, including the development of environmental assessments (EA), environmental impact statements (EIS), findings of no significant impact (FONSIs), and other NEPA related documentation.
PFAS Resources
Links to all things PFAS-related (i.e policy and guidance, legislation, announcements, webinars, events, etc.)
Pollution Prevention
This Pollution Prevention Program Area contains guidance, tools, examples, and analyses of products and processes which can be substituted for existing products/processes or added to existing processes to reduce/eliminate pollution. These tools, examples, products, and processes are all aids to meeting the EO 13423 goals.
Sustainability
The Sustainability Program Area includes the latest guidance, examples, and information resources to aid Federal facilities in developing and maintaining sustainable facilities and helping to develop and promote sustainable practices within their environmental programs or activities.
Transportation
The Transportation Program Area addresses vehicle fleet management which includes optimizing vehicle maintenance operations, biofuels, pollution prevention tools and techniques, and used oil. Additionaly included are links to software and databases that can model engine effectiveness and demonstrate appropriate pollution prevention techniques.
Water Efficiency
Included in the Water Efficiency Program Area are tools, techniques, and approaches for improving water use efficiency for both potable and non-potable water resources.
