Threatened Species Status with Section 4(d) Rule for the Borneo Earless Monitor (Draft)
Aug. 15, 2025
USFWS proposes to list the Borneo earless monitor (Lanthanotus borneensis), a lizard species from Borneo, as a threatened species under the ESA. This determination also serves as their 12-month finding on a petition to list the Borneo earless monitor. After a review of the best scientific and commercial data available, they find that listing the species is warranted. Accordingly, they propose to list the Borneo earless monitor as a threatened species with protective regulations under section 4(d) of the Act ("4(d) rule"). If finalize this rule as proposed would add this species to the List of Endangered and Threatened Wildlife and extend the Act's protections to the species. Comments must be received by 14 October 2025. Rachel London, Manager, Branch of Delisting and Foreign Species, Ecological Services Program, USFWS; email rachel_london@fws.gov; tele 703-358-2171.
