Public Private Partnerships for American Manufacturing Resilience: A Case Study of the National Science Foundation HAMMER Engineering Research Center (Web-based)
The Department of Commerce's Office of Property, Compliance, and Resilience, Ohio State University's HAMMER Program, and the National Science Foundation (NSF) will host a session on a case study about public-private partnerships in American Manufacturing Resilience. This session will explore how such collaborations have historically shaped industries like microelectronics, aviation, and steel, and how they continue to drive innovation. It will highlight the NSF's HAMMER Engineering Research Center, which is developing technologies like robotic blacksmithing and AI-driven manufacturing that could revolutionize the production of complex metal components. The discussion will also focus on building an ecosystem to translate these technologies into national strength, emphasizing the need for a coordinated network involving federal agencies, national labs, and private-sector partners to enable innovation and scale.
