Fire has always been part of how landscapes change. What's shifting is where it burns, how it behaves, and who is left to make sense of the aftermath: ecologically, socially, and psychologically. This closing session of the Risk & Intelligence cycle brings together three vantage points on wildfire that rarely share a room: a region historically left out of fire science, a global epicenter of fire-driven degradation, and the human systems tasked with responding when fire arrives.
The central question this session sits with: what does it take to build fire knowledge and fire preparedness in places, communities, and disciplines that haven't traditionally been asked to hold it?
In keeping with the spirit of the cycle, our speakers come to explore rather than to conclude. As the final session of Risk & Intelligence, this conversation is also a chance to look back across the hazards we've examined together and ask which open questions deserve to travel with us into future research, collaboration, and preparedness.
