The curriculum includes a general review of DoD Environmental policy; HAZMAT and HAZ Waste Laws, Regulations and Policies; Pollution Prevention (P2); Classification of HAZMAT; Health Effects; Identifying and Labeling; Accumulation Management and Contingency Planning & Initial Response. Topics discuss health hazards, storage and chemical compatibility, use of Safety Data Sheets (SDS), DoT Hazard Classes, General marking requirements of containers, Satellite Accumulation, Categories of HA categories, Exposure limits, Globally Harmonized System of Labeling (GHS), Waste generator categories and more. The course satisfies the requirement for initial training according to the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) 40CFR 262.16 and 262.17.
The course is not a certifying course for persons who require HAZMAT certification to approve/certify HAZMAT or Waste movement by any mode of transport. It does not certify any person in HAZMAT or HAZ Waste spill response.
