The Data Center Energy Practitioner (DCEP) Program, developed by the U.S. Department of Energy and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, is a specialized training and certification program designed to help professionals improve energy efficiency in data centers. The training teaches participants how to assess and optimize major data center systems--including HVAC, air management, IT equipment, and electrical infrastructure--using DOE-developed software tools such as DC Pro and system-specific assessment tools. The program offers both "Generalist" and "Specialist" tracks, combining technical instruction with practical assessment methodologies to help practitioners identify energy-saving opportunities, reduce operational costs, and lower carbon footprints. Participants can complete training-only courses or pursue certification by passing exams that validate their expertise in conducting professional data center energy assessments.
