This EPA tool provides a structured approach for water utilities to assess climate change risks and identify adaptation options. CREAT includes information on climate change impacts and associated threats to utility assets and helps the user through an assessment process that helps to generate reports to evaluate different adaptation options. CREAT will evolve to meet utility needs as new resources become available.

A federal facility inter-agency agreement between the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. EPA has been signed for the cleanup of the Curtis Bay Coast Guard Yard Superfund site in Anne Arundel County, MD. The agreement requires that the Coast Guard thoroughly investigate environmental impacts associated with past activities, and that appropriate actions be taken in order to protect the community and the environment. The agreement identifies roles, responsibilities, processes, and schedules EPA will follow to protect the environment and support approved land uses.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Coast Guard have settled alleged violations of hazardous waste and Clean Air Act regulations at the Coast Guard's Integrated Support Command facility in Portsmouth, Va. In addition to a $9,280 civil penalty, the Coast Guard has agreed to spend $89,290 on a project that will provide environmental and public health benefits. The Coast Guard will purchase a new digital x-ray machine for its dental clinic. The new digital machine will replace an x-ray machine that uses solutions that generate hazardous waste. This project will eliminate 906 pounds of hazardous waste annually.

The Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF) is an informal, voluntary arrangement among 15 international organizations and secretariats with substantial programs on forests. These agencies share their experiences and build on them to produce new benefits for their respective constituencies. They collaborate to streamline and align their work and to find ways of improving forest management and conservation and the production and trade of forest products. The mission of the CPF is to help enhance the contribution of all types of forests and trees outside forests to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and other internationally agreed development goals, promote the sustainable management of all types of forests and to strengthen long-term political commitment to that end.

U.S. EPA is launching a new on-line tool for scientific collaboration and knowledge sharing that was built by Purdue University with support from EPA. The Integrated Environmental Modeling Hub (iemHUB) allows environmental researchers to analyze environmental problems and combine environmental models so that a better understanding of the environment can be developed - everything from keeping beaches clean to predicting climate effects. The iemHUB is being released by the EPA-supported Community of Practice for Integrated Environmental Modeling (CIEM).

The National Capital Planning Commission is accepting comments from Federal partners on the Federal Environmental Element for the National Capital Comprehensive Plan until March 15th, 2012. The Community Guide series is a set of 21 fact sheets that describe, in general terms, cleanup methods used at Superfund and other sites. Each fact sheet is two pages long and answers five questions about the cleanup method: 1) What is it? 2) How does it work? 3) Is it safe? 4) How long will it take? and 5) Why use it?

CMAQ is an active open-source development project of the U.S. EPA that consists of a suite of programs for conducting air quality model simulations. CMAQ combines current knowledge in atmospheric science and air quality modeling, multi-processor computing techniques, and an open-source framework to deliver fast, technically sound estimates of ozone, particulates, toxics and acid deposition.

Federal facilities that have chemicals held above the following thresholds must submit either copies of their MSDSs or a list of MSDS chemicals to the SERC, LEPC, and local fire department:

• for all extremely hazardous substances present in amounts >= 500 lb (227 kg, approximately 55 gal) or the threshold planning quantity, whichever is lower
• for gasoline (all grades combined) in amounts >= 75,000 gal (or approximately 283,900 L) when the gasoline is in tanks entirely underground at a retail gas station that was in compliance during the preceding CY with all applicable UST regulations
• for diesel fuel (all grades combined) in amounts >= 100,000 gal (or approximately 378,500 L) when the diesel is in tanks entirely underground at a retail gas station that was in compliance during the preceding CY with all applicable UST regulations
• for all other hazardous chemicals present at any one time in amounts >= 10,000 lb (4540 kg).

This EPA guide, toolkit, and technical assistance promote comprehensive, community-wide planning approaches to manage stormwater. In the future this guide will be supplemented with an integrated online tool to assist communities in implementing the planning process, piloted through community-based technical assistance efforts, and updated over time with feedback from users.

The CLASIC tool is a screening tool utilizing a lifecycle cost framework to support stormwater infrastructure decisions on extent and combinations of green, hybrid green-gray and gray infrastructure practices. Users can create scenarios of stormwater control measures including climate and land use projections to assess lifecycle costs, performance, and co-benefits associated with those scenarios.

Protecting people from lead in drinking water is a longstanding priority of the EPA. Accordingly, enforcing the Safe Drinking Water Act's Lead and Copper Rule will help reduce the public's exposure to lead. This Compliance Advisory is directed to public water systems that are classified as either community water systems or non-transient non-community water systems (collectively, water systems). This Compliance Advisory describes how the EPA intends to monitor compliance and enforce the key provisions of the 2021 Lead and Copper Rule Revisions that will remain in place after the issuance of the final Lead and Copper Rule Improvements in October 2024.

RCRA Compliance Assistance Presentations for Labs Consistent with all other regulated entities, federal labs must comply with regulatory requirements of the environmental statutes, including the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) for solid and hazardous waste management (RCRA-C). EPA's Federal Facilities Enforcement Office (FFEO) developed a compliance assistance presentation to help federal labs comply with RCRA-C requirements. The EPA released a compliance guide for the 2024 methylene chloride risk management rule issued under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). The compliance guide will help industry, workers and other interested stakeholders understand and comply with the new regulations to prevent injuries, long-term illnesses and deaths. In April 2024, EPA finalized a ban on most uses of methylene chloride, a dangerous chemical known to cause liver cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer, brain cancer, cancer of the blood, and cancer of the central nervous system, as well as neurotoxicity, liver harm and even death. This regulation will protect people from health risks while allowing key uses to continue safely with a robust Workplace Chemical Protection Program (WCPP).

A system of software applications used widely to plan for and respond to chemical emergencies. It is one of the tools developed by EPA's Chemical Emergency Preparedness and Prevention Office (CEPPO) and NOAA, to assist front-line chemical emergency planners and responders. They can use CAMEO to access, store, and evaluate information critical for developing emergency plans. In addition, CAMEO supports regulatory compliance by helping users meet the chemical inventory reporting requirements of the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA, also known as SARA Title III). CAMEO also can be used with a separate software application called LandView ® to display EPA environmental databases and demographic/economic information to support analysis of environmental equity issues.

The Computers For Learning (CFL) program evolved as a guide for implementing Executive Order 12999, Educational Technology: Ensuring Opportunity for all Children in the Next Century. The CFL website enables schools and educational nonprofit organizations to obtain excess computer equipment from federal agencies.Federal agencies can report their excess computers and related peripheral equipment to GSA through the GSAXcess® website. Eligible recipients can view and request the available federal excess property at the CFL website.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) modified the hazardous waste management regulations under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) to conditionally exclude solvent-contaminated wipes from hazardous waste regulations provided that businesses clean or dispose of them properly. Wipes are used in conjunction with solvents for cleaning and other purposes by tens of thousands of facilities in numerous industrial sectors, such as printers, automobile repair shops and manufacturers of automobiles, electronics, furniture and chemicals.

Laws and regulations related to cultural and natural resources often require participatory processes that can be mired in conflict and misunderstanding. Projects frequently can be more effectively navigated when stakeholders use collaborative processes and mutual gains negotiation during consultation to resolve problems and develop win-win solutions. Through interactive exercises and role plays, learn to understand conflict management styles, practice negotiation skills, and design a stakeholder consultation process to address issues in a timely manner and prevent conflict from escalating.

Congress.gov allows users to search the legislation records for specific bills introduced in Congress since 1973. Bills may be searched by number or keyword from the search bar. After results are returned, one can narrow the set by selecting additional criteria from the filters. Filters available for legislation include: Congress, Bill Type, Status of Legislation, Subject – Policy Area, and others.

This presentation provides an overview of the USEPA's C&D Materials Recovery Program and details the recent shift in focus from waste management to sustainable materials management (SMM) as a lifecycle approach to managing materials. The annual awards are based on published criteria approved by the CMRA Board of Directors and are intended to highlight and provide distinction to those that have accepted the challenge to define and expand the industry served by the CMRA. The four awards are:

• The CDRA Member of the Year award is presented to the board or committee member who has most served the association in the previous year. The Member of the Year is selected by the CDRA president based on extraordinary service to the mission of the organization and the C&D recycling industry during the previous 12-month period.
• Recycler of the Year is for recognition to an individual in the construction and demolition recycling industry who has made superior and substantial contributions to his/her company or industry in achieving sound operating practices, including marketing materials.
• The CDRA President's Award is a special recognition to salute companies that have provided innovative ways to increase the recycling of construction and demolition materials in North America.

EPA finalized changes to the effluent limitations guidelines and standards for the Construction and Development point source category. These changes are being promulgated pursuant to a settlement agreement to resolve litigation. This final rule withdraws the numeric discharge standards, which are currently stayed, and changes several of the non-numeric provisions of the existing rule. This final rule is effective on 5 May 2014.

CICA is your source for plain language explanations of environmental rules for the construction industry. The information is provided by the National Center for Manufacturing Sciences with the assistance of the Associated General Contractors of America and the National Association of Home Builders, in cooperation with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Hagan (D-NC) sent a letter to Acting United States Secretary of the Navy BJ Penn, asking him to help close information gaps in the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry's (ATSDR) 1997 public health assessment. New information about the levels of benzene, TCE and PCE in Camp Lejeune's water supply recently invalidated sections of the public health assessment.

This course provides an overview of the vapor intrusion exposure pathway including its scientific foundation, regulatory framework, and the technical aspects of investigating and remediating contaminated vapor sites. The class will cover topics such as: screening sites for potential vapor intrusion concerns, conducting field investigations, sampling techniques, data analyses, exposure point calculations, the Johnson and Ettinger predictive model, vapor intrusion risk assessment, vapor intrusion mitigation, and remediation. Participants will work through practical problems and typical site scenarios based on case studies of established vapor intrusion sites. This course provides a comprehensive introduction for those new to the field, and will also provide insights, data analysis techniques, and the latest research for more advanced participants.

The guide encourages project managers to consider a mix of remedies, including dredging and disposing of sediment; capping it to limit further contamination; or allowing natural attenuation to let chemical contaminants in soil or groundwater to degrade naturally. The final document includes new language encouraging project managers to conduct more analyses and consider more sources of uncertainty regarding the overall contamination of a site. In the final guide the language included directions to take steps to cap contaminants "sufficient" to protect the environment.
