Offered by the U.S. Forest Service, topics in this 5-day course include an overview of wildlife issues relative to pre-existing highways and future highway planning; differences in impacts and solutions between low volume and high volume roads; structural and nonstructural solutions to wildlife mortality and habitat connectivity; mitigation and funding for existing highway impacts to wildlife including loss of habitat connectivity and vehicle-caused mortality; and an introduction to current resources on wildlife/highway crossings and interactions, The target audience is resource management biologists and engineers. The EPA and partners are launching the Innovative Ways to Destroy PFAS Challenge. The challenge asks solvers to submit detailed plans for a non-thermal way of destroying PFAS in concentrated film forming foam (AFFF), while creating the least amount of potentially harmful byproducts. The EPA's September 2016 RRP Inspection Manual establishes uniform guidance for EPA-credentialed inspectors who conduct inspections to monitor compliance with the RRP Rule. Compliance monitoring activities for the RRP Rule include work site inspections, records reviews of renovation firms, and auditing training provider courses that certify renovators.

In accordance with Section 5(b) of E.O. 13514, CEQ has issued Instructions for Implementing Sustainable Locations for Federal Facilities. These instructions provide direction to Federal agencies seeking to acquire or develop owned or leased space as well as anticipated moves, expansions or consolidations that significantly impact the overall built environment and community, such as transportation (i.e., vehicle miles traveled, commuting time, congestion), infrastructure, economic development, water and air quality. These instructions will improve Federal agency sustainability performance by ensuring a balanced consideration and evaluation of land use, the built environment, cost, security, mission need and competition on facility location decision-making.

This interactive map visually displays the projected sea level rise around hazardous waste facilities within estimated flood zones along the U.S. coastline, as part of a whole-of-government approach to confronting the climate crisis and protecting communities. EPA developed this map to help coastal communities, states, regions, and hazardous waste facility managers to better prepare for the impacts of climate change; independently assess their sea level rise vulnerabilities; and help inform actions they can take to become more resilient to climate change.

The Interagency Agreement (IA) establishes a cooperative natural resource conservation partnership between the Army and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) to support the management of natural resources on and near Army controlled lands. With the establishment of this formal agreement, the Army will be able to sustain and enhance its ranges, ensuring the attainment of its training/testing capabilities, meeting its mission readiness goals, and directly support the Secretary's priorities and National Defense Strategy. Through the IA, the Army will have assistance in meeting its Federal stewardship requirements and ensure the continued availability of installation lands to support Army readiness by providing a mechanism under which the Army can request reimbursable support from the FWS for the conservation of fish and wildlife and their habitats on and near Army installations and lands.

In October 2011, the Interagency Climate Change Adaptation Task Force published the "National Action Plan: Priorities for Managing Freshwater Resources in a Changing Climate." It was developed by the Water Resources and Climate Change Adaptation Workgroup made up of federal agencies with responsibilities for water management. This recent report highlights progress made in 2014 implementing the National Action Plan and describes the specific tasks that federal agencies are planning to undertake in 2015. The work described in this report reports reflect a comprehensive, coordinated, and continuing effort by federal agencies to respond to the challenges for water resources management posed by climate change.

The U.S. DOE has joined the U.S. Department of Commerce, the U.S. EPA, the U.S. Small Business Administration and the U.S. Department of Labor in signing a Memorandum of Understanding in support of the Economy, Energy and Environment (E3) Initiative. The goal of this effort is to assist manufacturers in becoming more efficient, competitive, and sustainable through public-private partnerships. E3 focuses on helping small and medium enterprises (SMEs) advance efforts to use lean, clean, and energy-efficient practices to conserve energy, reduce environmental impacts, preserve jobs, and enhance overall competitiveness.

The Interagency Marine Debris Coordinating Committee (IMDCC) is an interagency body responsible for developing and recommending comprehensive and multi-disciplinary approaches to reduce the sources and impacts of marine debris to the nation's marine environment, natural resources, public safety, and economy. The IMDCC ensures the coordination of Federal agency marine debris activities both nationally and internationally, as well as recommends research priorities, monitoring techniques, educational programs, and regulatory action.

The IPCC is a scientific intergovernmental body set up by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). It was established to provide the decision-makers and others interested in climate change with an objective source of information about climate change. The IPCC doesn't conduct any research nor does it monitor climate related data or parameters. Its role is to assess on a comprehensive, objective, open and transparent basis the latest scientific, technical and socio-economic literature produced worldwide relevant to the understanding of the risk of human-induced climate change, its observed and projected impacts and options for adaptation and mitigation.

This CEQ guidance, dated 23 December 2016, provides agencies with guidance for calculating achievement of the waste diversion goals in E.O. 13693 Section 3(j)(ii) and (iii), in support of the E.O.'s overarching goal of reducing GHG emissions. The waste diversion goals, and therefore the calculation methodologies in this guidance, apply only to non-hazardous waste. Agencies should consult applicable Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) provisions and regulations to ensure determination and proper management of hazardous and non-hazardous waste.

EPA is announcing the following interim guidance regarding public meetings and hearings in the RCRA process during the COVID-19 public health emergency. This interim guidance provides alternative approaches, recommendations and resources to help ensure public participation when in-person interactions are not possible. EPA regards public meetings as an important opportunity for communities and other stakeholders to ask questions, discuss issues, and become involved in local RCRA-related activities.

The 2024 updated interim guidance presents available information on the destruction and disposal of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances and PFAS-containing materials. This update identifies available, effective and methods to remediate, dispose of and destroy PFAS contamination. It provides information on the current state of science and associated uncertainties for three large-scale capacity technologies that can destroy PFAS or control PFAS release into the environment: thermal destruction, landfills, and underground injection. This guidance will help decision-makers select technologies based on characteristics of the waste and options available to prevent releases and keep PFAS out of the environment. The primary audience of this guidance is decision makers who need to identify the most effective means for destroying or disposing of PFAS-containing materials and wastes. The Department of the Interior today announced that the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has completed the environmental analysis of the proposed Vineyard Wind I offshore wind project. This represents major progress in the Biden-Harris administrations goal to accelerate responsible development of renewable energy on public lands and waters as a key component of tackling the climate crisis and creating jobs. Vineyard Wind is proposing what is expected to be the first project developed in their lease area, an 800-megawatt wind energy project offshore Massachusetts. The proposed project would be located approximately 12 nautical miles offshore Martha's Vineyard and 12 nautical miles offshore Nantucket in the northern portion of Vineyard Winds lease area. If approved, it would be the first commercial scale offshore wind project in the United States.

The Department of the Interior announced today the single largest grant investment ever from the Land and Water Conservation Fund's Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership Program (ORLP). Through ORLP, the National Park Service (NPS) will invest $254.68 million into 54 projects in 24 states for the redevelopment or creation of new local parks. The ORLP program advances President Biden's America the Beautiful Initiative, a locally led, voluntary conservation and restoration effort that aims to address the nature and climate crises, improve equitable access to the outdoors, and strengthen the economy. Providing safe outdoor spaces for communities that are park-deprived is one of six areas of focus. The program also helps advance the Administration's Justice40 Initiative that aims to have 40 percent of the benefits of federal funding flow to disadvantaged communities.

As part of the comprehensive review of the federal oil and gas program called for in Executive Order 14008, the Interior Department will host a virtual forum on 25 March 2021. The day-long forum will feature several panels to highlight perspectives from industry representatives, labor and environmental justice organizations, natural resource advocates, and other experts. The information gathered at the forum, which will be livestreamed, will help inform an interim report from the Department that will be completed in early summer. The report will include initial findings on the state of the federal conventional energy programs, as well as outline next steps and recommendations for the Department and Congress to improve stewardship of public lands and waters, create jobs, and build a just and equitable energy future.

These graphics are served directly from their providers so that they are automatically updated in the Dashboard as often as the respective provider updates them. The user can select graphics to enlarge to full size, and move them around the Dashboard to compare with other information.

This training will focus on the practical application of identified resilience solutions in federal infrastructure projects. Participants will learn how to utilize utility programs, as well as financial assistance programs like Assisting Federal Facilities with Energy Conservation Technologies (AFFECT) and Energy Resilience and Conservation Investment Program (ERCIP), to fund projects that enhance resilience at their sites. While performance contracting and appropriations will be discussed, the training will emphasize other actionable strategies to implement resilience at the site level.

This USFWS course is an overview of the species status assessment (SSA) framework, which is an analytical approach developed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to deliver foundational science information for all Endangered Species Act decisions. The overview will cover the basic concepts and minimum requirements of an SSA and will show you how to diagnose the level of complexity and expertise required to complete an SSA. Although the overview won't cover technical methods in detail, it will introduce the participant to some of the tools and resources available to conduct SSA's with an emphasis on those of low to moderate complexity.
