The primary goal of this program is to recognize the variety of existing accomplishments and excellence provided by environmental practitioners in adhering to the principles of the National Association of Environmental Professionals (NAEP). The NAEP National Environmental Excellence Award competition is not a membership oriented competition and is expressly created to consider nominations from all interested environmental professionals, their agencies, companies and so forth from across the country. The awards are presented during the annual March NAEP conference. Nominations are typically due the end of September.

The purpose of these calls is to inform the public about EPA's environmental justice work and enhance opportunities to maintain an open dialogue with environmental justice advocates. The calls first began in 2010 and were a valuable tool for EPA to learn about environmental justice needs in communities around the country. NEMI-CBR is a secure, Web-based database for locating, evaluating, comparing, and retrieving analytical methods for chemical, biological, and radiological-related contaminants that could pose a threat to public water supplies. An extension of the National Environmental Methods Index (NEMI), it includes all the information of NEMI, plus three additional fields needed to address emergency response. The tool also includes the CBR Advisor, an expert system companion that enables users to obtain advice in response to an incident and to access detailed information for planning and training purposes. NEMI-CBR is a password-protected tool with access granted to personnel from drinking water and wastewater utilities, State primacy (primary enforcement) Agencies, Federal officials (including government laboratory personnel), and public health agencies.

The National Environmental Policy Act was one of the first laws ever written that establishes the broad national framework for protecting our environment. NEPA's basic policy is to assure that all branches of government give proper consideration to the environment prior to undertaking any major federal action that significantly affects the environment.

The NEPA Application Course (CIN: A-4A-0077) is offered by the Navy. It is presented in a 3-day seminar, provides participants with the legal requirements, Navy policy, procedures and techniques for implementing NEPA, and is the foundation for more advanced NEPA coursework. This course focuses on: selecting the proper document; levels of analysis; public involvement; review process; and impact analysis required under the law. Lectures, case studies and hands-on workshops involving Navy scenarios are part of this in-depth study of NEPA analysis process. The course focuses on documentation and sufficiency requirements for the Categorical Exclusion and Environmental Assessment. The course is taught by an experienced planning practitioner with additional legal support by the Department of the Navy, Office of the General Counsel. The target audience is: DoN, (Navy with Marine Corps and others as space permits) personnel who work with environmental issues in the following areas: Weapon systems acquisition programs; Shore facility operations and management; Real Estate & Facilities Planning; Operational exercises and training; Realignment and base closure actions; Construction Projects; and Range Management.

The NEP was authorized under the 1987 Amendments to the Clean Water Act to improve estuarine waters, habitats and living resources by working with partners and the public. Estuaries are places where rivers meet the sea. Under NEP EPA develops plans for attaining or maintaining water quality in an estuary. This includes protection of public water supplies and the protection and propagation of a balanced, indigenous population of shellfish, fish, and wildlife, and allows recreational activities, in and on water, requires that control of point and nonpoint sources of pollution to supplement existing controls of pollution.

This plan is specific to each individual program and addresses all aspects of environmental protection for the estuary, including issues such as water quality, habitat, living resources, and land use. The CCMP is based on a scientific characterization of the estuary, and is developed and approved by a broad-based coalition of stakeholders. You will also find examples of active CCMPs here.

The National Primary Drinking Water Regulations (NPDWR) are legally enforceable primary standards and treatment techniques that apply to public water systems. Primary standards and treatment techniques protect public health by limiting the levels of contaminants in drinking water. This is a compendium of the currently regulated contaminants, including disinfection byproducts, their maximum contaminant level goal (MCLG), maxim um contaminant level (MCL), potential health effects, and common sources of the contaminant.

This EPA tool is a desktop application that estimates the annual amount of rainwater and frequency of runoff from a specific site anywhere in the United States (including Puerto Rico). EPA developed the National Stormwater Calculator (SWC) to help support local, state, and national stormwater management objectives and regulatory efforts to reduce runoff through infiltration and retention using green infrastructure practices as low impact development controls. As the model evolves, it will provide 'zoomed-in,' street-level forecasts and inundation maps to improve flood warnings, and will expand to include water quality forecasts.

Each Federal agency or museum that has possession or control over holdings or objects of Native American unassociated funerary objects, sacred objects, or objects of cultural patrimony must provide a written summary of such objects based on available information held by such agency or museum.

(Seattle--Jan. 17, 2012) Naval Base Kitsap Bangor failed to properly monitor pipes and underground fuel storage tanks for leaks on its property in Silverdale, Washington in violation of federal laws that protect groundwater, according to a settlement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The tool is part of an initiative developed by the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) and it draws information from publicly available federal, state, and local datasets, allowing NEPA practitioners, stakeholders and the public to view information about environmental conditions within the area of a proposed project quickly and easily at early stages of project development.

Developed by the EPA's National Estuary Program (NEP), NEPmap contains more than a decade's worth of NEP habitat data and provides a large set of data layers to enable viewing of NEP habitat information in a wider environmental context. The NEPmap allows users to view water quality conditions in their estuary and surrounding watershed alongside NEP habitat projects. NEPmap users can also generate and print maps and reports, change map scales, turn on and off background layers and interact with information points to provide a greater level of detail than a traditional static map.

Published in August 2010, this report presents an assessment and planning process to examine military installations for net zero energy potential. Net Zero Energy Installation (NZEI) assessment offers a systematic framework to analyze energy projects at installations while balancing other site priorities such as mission, cost, and security. This report is the result of a joint initiative formed between DoD and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in 2008 to address military energy use led to a task force to examine the potential for net zero energy military installations, which would produce as much energy on-site from renewable energy generation, or through the on-site use of renewable fuels, as they consume in buildings, facilities, and fleet vehicles.

The Global Electronics Council recently announced Climate Criteria for its EPEAT ecolabel. Starting in late 2023, products that have been verified to meet these criteria will be listed as Early Adopters on the EPEAT Registry. All products will have to meet the Climate Criteria by December 31, 2025. EPA coordinated comments from federal agencies for the new criteria which includes requirements for public disclosure of climate pollutants, use of renewable energy and energy reduction within the supply chain and during a product's use. The EPEAT label was developed with support from an EPA grant and federal purchasers are required to procure EPEAT registered electronics.

New Mexico State water quality officials announced that they approved a settlement agreement with the U.S. Defense Department over groundwater violations at Cannon Air Force Base in eastern New Mexico. The agreement addresses a compliance order that was issued over Cannon's lack of a groundwater discharge permit. The base also was accused of not providing state environmental regulators with information about chemicals left behind by past military firefighting activities. The state Environment Department had initially fined the Air Force almost $1.7 million for failing to monitor the contaminants discharged at Cannon and for letting its permit expire.

This website provides ready access to federally maintained geospatial data, services and applications. The website makes it possible for users to create customized maps using federal geospatial data and common geographic maps. They also can integrate their own data into the maps, and share the maps through Web browsers and mobile applications. The platform was developed by the Federal Geographic Data, an interagency committee chaired by the Secretary of the Interior. The panel also includes members from the Office of Management and Budget, Environmental Protection Agency and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Examples include NexRad, Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite Radiometer Data, Sea Surface Temperatures Analysis, and others.

NGDS is a government-wide, Best-in-Class contract for domestic and international express small package delivery services, and domestic ground small package delivery services. The contract represents the Federal Government's acquisition approach to consolidate federal package delivery contracts into one government-wide contract under the purview of DoD's U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM), a specialized buyer of transportation services on a global scale. The Small Grants Program is a competitive, matching grants program that supports public-private partnerships carrying out projects in the United States that further the goals of the North American Wetlands Conservation Act. These projects must involve long-term protection, restoration, and/or enhancement of wetlands and associated uplands habitats for the benefit of all wetlands-associated migratory birds.

The Portal facilitates decision making by government agencies, businesses, non-government organizations (NGOs), academic entities, and individuals. Case Studies provide examples of how people use the Portal to inform fisheries management, maritime safety, aquaculture siting, offshore wind development, ocean planning, and other processes. From 2012 to 2016, federal and state agencies used the Portal for development of the Northeast Ocean Plan.
