GSA's SFTool Spotlights Indoor Water Conservation
GSA's SFTool Spotlights Indoor Water Conservation. Federal civilian agencies use 47 billion gallons of water annually and demand is increasing while supply is decreasing. But "off the shelf" conservation measures, such as replacing existing toilets, faucets, and showerheads with more efficient versions, could help reduce water use by up to 26%, saving $35–$50 million annually in water and sewer expenses.

GSA's Sustainable Facilities Tool (SFTool) offers evidence-based strategies to help you identify cost-effective water conservation options. Download the Indoor Water Conservation document to find tips and example strategies for conserving water. Also, read the Water Systems Overview to show how water relates to other building systems. There you can:

  • Learn the impact of water on human health and well-being
  • Find out how to bundle water solutions with other building projects
  • See who to include at the project table
  • Learn how to implement water solutions to follow the Guiding Principles
  • Read up on case studies.
