FYRs generally are conducted where the chosen remedy leaves waste in place and does not allow for unlimited use and unrestricted exposure(UU/UE) at a site. This guidance supplements OSWER's 2001 Comprehensive Five-Year Review Guidance (FYR Guidance) and provides recommendations for conducting FYRs for the IC component of remedies in a manner similar to the review of engineering or other remedy components.

Overseas Compliance Assessment Protocols (OCAP) manuals are environmental compliance assessment manuals intended for use by Department of Defense (DOD) installations that are located overseas. The OCAP manuals are based on Final Governing Standards (FGS) developed specifically for use in countries that host DOD installations. The manuals enable users to: identify applicable environmental regulations, document instances of environmental noncompliance, develop action plans to eliminate the noncompliance, and prevent future noncompliance. Service-specific supplements to the FGS-based OCAP manuals are available for use by the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Army, the U.S. Navy, and U.S. Marines. The FGS-based manuals are updated as necessary; the service-specific supplements developed for use overseas are updated annually. FedCenter.gov membership is also required for access to these documents.

As the weather warms, exposure to unhealthy ground-level ozone conditions becomes more likely and especially harmful to asthmatics and those with respiratory conditions. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and Nitrous Oxides (NOx) react with hot temperatures in the air to form ground-level ozone. To alert and protect the public, EPA's AIRNow website provides information about air quality conditions to prevent dangerous over-exposure to ozone pollution.

EPA has asked the Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee (CASAC) for further interpretation of the epidemiological and clinical studies they used to make their recommendation concerning stricter standards for smog. EPA will review the input CASAC provides before the new standard is selected.

NEWMOA developed a software application called "Pollution Prevention and Assistance Tracker (P2@)" starting around 2012 through 2015. The tool was developed with funding and support from EPA and oversight by NEWMOA's Assistance and Pollution Prevention Metrics Workgroup.

To support the EPA's environmental justice (EJ) goals, as well as the Justice40 Initiative in pollution prevention (P2) grant work, EPA developed a mapping tool that allows uses to identify industrial facilities located in or adjacent to underserved communities, including communities with EJ concerns. The Guidance Manual for Paint Reuse Programs, dated January 2007, was developed by the Paint Product Stewardship Initiative (PPSI). The purpose of this manual is to provide interested stakeholders with the resources necessary to establish a successful paint reuse program and to provide existing reuse programs with best practices for more effective operations. USFWS, list the Panama City crayfish (Procambarus econfinae), a terrestrial crayfish species native to Bay County, Florida, as a threatened species with a rule issued under the ESA. They also designate critical habitat for the species under the Act. In total, approximately 4,138 acres (1,675 hectares (ha)) in Bay County, Florida, fall within eight units of critical habitat. This rule extends the Act's protections to the species and its designated critical habitat. This rule is effective 4 February 2022. This tool calculates the U.S. average energy and wood consumption and environmental releases summed across the full "life cycle" of each of five major grades of paper and paperboard. For a given grade, it allows the user to compare the environmental impacts of papers made with different levels of post-consumer recycled content, ranging from 0% (i.e., virgin paper) to 100%.

The Paris Agreement, which calls for this zeroing-out of net carbon pollution by the end of the century, was ratified on 5 October 2016 and will enter into force on 4 November 2016.

Approximately 2,900 acres of the Griffiss Air Force Base Superfund Site located in Rome, New York, is being deleted from the National Priorities List (NPL). The EPA and the State of New York, have determined that, with regard to the specified properties at the GAFB Site (i.e., the soil and groundwater beneath), either no significant threat to public health or the environment exists or all appropriate response actions, other than operation, maintenance, and 5-yr reviews, have been implemented such that they no longer pose a significant threat to public health or the environment. This action is effective March 20, 2009.

EPA has issued guidance on the handling of PCB-containing fluorescent light ballasts in schools. While directed at schools, it applies to any other building owner or operator as well.

Caulk containing potentially harmful polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) was used in many buildings in the 1950s through the 1970s. PCBs in caulk have not been found in single-family homes. EPA has only found the chemical in caulk in large, older apartment complexes and some older buildings, such as schools.

Through this app, users can purchase and download professionally created Forest Service maps that are stored on their devices. They can use the maps based on their location when GPS is available. The maps also will allow users to measure distance and area, find coordinates, open a current view in Google maps, plot place marks, add notes, enter their own data and add photos as attributes. Almost 700 Forest Service maps are available through the app. The app works on iPhones (3GS or newer) and iPads with WiFi+3G. It also works with Android 4 or newer operating systems on devices with at least 1 gigabyte of memory.

(WASHINGTON, April 20, 2018) The Defense Department is honoring nine winners with the 2018 Secretary of Defense Environmental Awards for exceptional environmental achievements and innovative, cost-effective environmental practices. The department has honored individuals, teams and installations each year since 1962 for remarkable achievements in these environmental management strategies that successfully support mission readiness, Ellen M. Lord, the undersecretary of defense for acquisition and sustainment, said in the memorandum announcing the recipients.

EPA is proposing to add per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) subject to reporting under the EPCRA and the PPA pursuant to the NDAA to the list of Lower Thresholds for Chemicals of Special Concern (chemicals of special concern). These PFAS already have a lower reporting threshold of 100 pounds. The addition of these PFAS to the list of chemicals of special concern will cause such PFAS to be subject to the same reporting requirements as other chemicals of special concern (i.e., it would eliminate the use of the de minimis exemption and the option to use Form A and would limit the use of range reporting for PFAS). Removing the availability of these burden-reduction reporting options will result in a more complete picture of the releases and waste management quantities for these PFAS. In addition, EPA is proposing to remove the availability of the de minimis exemption for purposes of the Supplier Notification Requirements for all chemicals on the list of chemicals of special concern. This change will help ensure that purchasers of mixtures and trade name products containing such chemicals are informed of their presence in mixtures and products they purchase. A national computerized management information system that automates entry, updating, and retrieval of National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) data and tracks permit issuance, permit limits and monitoring data, and other data pertaining to facilities regulated under NPDES.

The EPA has revised its Phase I stormwater regulations to clarify that a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit is not required for stormwater discharges from logging roads. The EPA did not intend for logging roads to be regulated as industrial facilities and has revised 40 CFR 122.26(b)(14) to clarify that intent by adding language to existing stormwater regulations to clarify that, for the purposes of assessing whether stormwater discharges are "associated with industrial activity," the only facilities under Standard Industrial Code (SIC) code 2411 that are "industrial" are: rock crushing, gravel washing, log sorting, and log storage. Stormwater discharges from forest roads, including logging roads, may be evaluated under section 402(p)(6) of the Clean Water Act because the section allows for a broad range of flexible approaches that are better suited to address the complexity of forest road ownership, management, and use.

PFAS Project Lab maintains a public PFAS contamination site tracker, which now contains more than 850 PFAS-contaminated sites and over 600 contaminated water systems in the United States.

There are a variety of laws and regulations to protect public health and the environment as it relates to PFAS in the environment.

EPA announced a Workshop on Federal Government Human Health PFAS Research. In partnership with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the federal family engaged with the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine to coordinate the two-day virtual public workshop to review federal agency research on PFAS and identify research and data gaps.

There are a variety of resources available to states dealing with per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) including a bimonthly ECOS-EPA PFAS call, PFAS data and tools developed by EPA, EPA PFAS research timelines, and PFAS risk communication webpages.

The DOE PFAS Strategic Roadmap outlines the Department's overall approach, goals and objectives, and planned actions to assess and manage PFAS risk at DOE sites, and in so doing, to help ensure the protection of human health and the environment.

The roadmap sets timelines by which EPA plans to take specific actions and commits to bolder new policies to safeguard public health, protect the environment, and hold polluters accountable. The actions described in the PFAS Roadmap each represent important and meaningful steps to safeguard communities from PFAS contamination. Cumulatively, these actions will build upon one another and lead to more enduring and protective solutions.

President Biden signed an executive order further embedding environmental justice into the work of federal agencies to achieve real, measurable progress that communities can count on. The new Executive Order, Revitalizing Our Nation's Commitment to Environmental Justice for All, will: Deepen the Biden-Harris Administration's whole-of-government commitment to environmental justice; Better protect overburdened communities from pollution and environmental harms; Strengthen engagement with communities and mobilize federal agencies to confront existing and legacy barriers and injustices; Promote the latest science, data, and research, including on cumulative impacts; Expand interagency coordination and launch a new Office of Environmental Justice within the White House Council on Environmental Quality; Increase accountability and transparency in federal environmental justice policy; and Honor and build on the foundation of ongoing environmental justice work.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is taking final action to correct the production baseline to reflect corrected calculations for the phasedown of hydrofluorocarbons pursuant to the American Innovation and Manufacturing Act.
